Day 01. Lima - Chiclayo - Chiclayo
After our early morning arrival in Chiclayo, a typical Peruvian coastal town where the tropical sun, desert oasis and the fresh breeze come together, we are met and transferred to hotel selected. At mid morning, tour to Sipan and Huaca Rajada, a complex where archeologists discovered the Royal Tombs of the Lord of Sipan, a high ranking Moche governor whose body was found in a wooden sarcophagus accompanied with his rich attire, including necklaces, breastplates, ear spools, nose rings, and bracelets of gold and silver and also objects in copper, spondyllus and semi-precious stones like turquoise. After a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, visit the Brunning National Archeological Museum with more than 1500 ornamental pieces from several cultures such as Sican, Chimu and Moche, including the treasures of the Royal Tomb of Sipan. Return to Chiclayo to enjoy a welcome Peruvian dinner at the hotel.

Day 02. Chiclayo - Chachapoyas
After breakfast, our English speaking guide/driver takes us for a nine-hour ride by car or bus ride, over the coastal plain and the Andes mountain range, through a rugged area of high peaks, plains, deep canyons, vertical crags, enormous caves and lush vegetation, to Chachapoyas village. Lunch is served at a local restaurant en route. Late afternoon we arrive in Chachapoyas, the cradle of the ancient Chachapoyan civilization and a very picturesque Andean town with narrow cobblestone streets, and buildings with thick adobe walls. Overnight at hotel selected.

Day 03. Chachapoyas - Kuelap - Chachapoyas
After an early breakfast, our day begins with an exciting and scenic three-hour car or bus ride to the mountaintop Fortress of Kuelap or the mysterious home of the Cloud people, a pre-Inca city ruin located on a rocky slope 9,500 feet above sea level which sits on two huge overlying artificial platforms built stone by stone and protected by outer defense walls of more than 90 ft. high and almost 2,300 ft. long. Thousand of bromeliads render special beauty to a construction entirely carved in limestone showing a variety of circular houses of great artistic and esthetic inspiration that once belonged to high ranking military personnel, priests, soldiers and civilians. Visit the observation tower located in the highest point of the city and the Ink well or Tintero, a strange circular shaped building used as a ceremonial center or a prison. A typical lunch is served at a local restaurant. Late afternoon return to Chachapoyas and overnight at hotel selected.

Day 04. Chachapoyas - Tarapoto
In the early morning hours and after breakfast, we depart Chachapoyas, another nine-hour car or bus ride stops at many places en route for photographing and explanations given by our guide about this part of the Peruvian Mountains, toward Tarapoto city. We have a tasty lunch at a local restaurant at Moyobamba city, known to be the seat of the first religious missionary orders established in the area, and a foothold from where the church set out to convert the natives to Christianity, and also to visit the orchid plant nursery where we learn about the many types of these flowering plants which grow in the region, consisting of more than 2500 registered species. Late afternoon, we arrive at the semi-tropical Tarapoto, called The City of the Palms and Orchids. Overnight at hotel selected.

Day 05. Tarapoto - Lamas - River Rafting - Tarapoto
Day trip to the unique village of Lamas where inhabitants are the direct descendants of the Chancas, a warrior race which, after being defeated by the Incas in their battle to take over the City of Cusco, fled to this part of the Amazon. Here, we observe their typical windowless dwellings (to avoid the intrusion of evil spirits, according to legend). Admire and purchase the handicrafts they make or simply sit down and behold the beautiful clothing of the towns people, presenting original hand made ornaments. Also visit a small museum and listen to a pleasant lecture about the costumes and history of this remarkable place. A typical lunch is served before climbing aboard an inflatable raft for an unforgettable river adventure along the Mayo River, which is a swift flowing river that offers visitors a unique and exciting rafting experience in one of Perus most unspoiled wilderness areas. A great number of epiphyte plants, which grow on the branches of the trees or even on the bare rocks, as well as orchids, bromeliads and some species of monkeys, mammals and birds are seen. Return to Tarapoto for a swim in the hotel pool or out to enjoy the lively nocturnal activity.

Day 06. Tarapoto - Lima
Morning hours at leisure to walk around Tarapoto, swim at the pool or just relax at hotel. Transfer to the airport for our flight to Lima or to Yurimaguas to continue our adventure by sailing down the Huallaga, Maraon and Amazon Rivers to the bustling city of Iquitos in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest
